A flute whether it is an Indian flute or the Native American flute, is a simple musical instrument that gives soothing music when played properly. You get inner peace and inspiration when you play an Indian flute or a Native American flute. If you a beginner and you want to learn how to play a flute, then on the first day of holding the flute you might not realize that you would lot of peace and soul soothing music from that simple device. In a flute you will see six holes on the sides. You will be using the index finger, the middle finger and the ring finger of both the hands to close these six holes. The right hand is used to cover the top three holes while the left hand is used to cover the bottom three holes of the Indian flute or the Native American flute.
To get the fundamental note of the flute you have to blow it with all the six holes closed. If you do not cover the holes properly or blow harder, you will not hear the basic note. Cover the holes with the pad of your fingers and not the tip. While you blow the flute raise the ring finger of the left hand to get the second note and then the middle finger and also the ring finger to get the third note. Repeat them in the reverse too. For a start you can blow the air individually for each position of the fingers. Then the next step is to blow the air continuously and raise each finger and then close them in the reverse. While blowing air do not use your chest or throat to bring in the air. The air should come from the diaphragm (belly). You can experiment with these steps to get a feel of how you are going to use that Indian flute or the Native American flute. Enjoy your play!
